The inaugural meeting held in Malaysia 2016 was organised with the aim of establishing a CMT working group in the Asia Pacific region. Representatives from Australia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand were present. It was agreed by individuals present that the name of the group should be the Asian Oceanic Inherited Neuropathy Consortium (AOINC). The key outcome from the meeting was to assess the feasibility of establishing an Asian-Oceanic CMT registry in the region that could be modelled on the Inherited Neuropathy Consortium registry (INC). The AOINC registry would serve the region and be developed to facilitate research studies with the INC Registry to facilitate clinical trial readiness in the Asian Oceanic region.
